"It’s very, very humbling, this giving nature of nature. Of course, there’s violence and all kinds of stuff going on in nature too, but the bounty and the generosity, has been an incredible part of my life and part of keeping me grounded and keeping me continuing on. I really want to teach that to my kids too, that you can ask for help from the world and you can receive it. One of the things the globalized economy has been really good at is severing connections, not only with the land, but also between people as we’ve reduced our interactions to become more economic exchanges. We don’t need to go to the neighbor to borrow a cup of sugar. And it’s really led to a sense of isolation and loneliness. We’ve reached a time where human organization is really on not a human scale anymore."
