While in Jakarta, Indonesia, I experienced a beautiful moment of spontaneous connection.
Every Sunday, the city shuts down a major highway through the city from 6:00am – 12:00pm. I got up early for a run and thought there might be a few other runners on the road. Instead, there were tens of thousands of people walking and running together. Families, couples’ hand in hand, community groups with matching t-shirts, pop-up group dances, cultural shows, and (my favourite) a fashion show featuring citizens. Everyone was joyful, welcoming, and collectively getting healthier – other cities should follow their example.
