Joe Gebbia, Brian Chesky, and Nate Blecharczyk cofounded Airbnb in 2007 based on connection and trust. This was made easier because their relationship had started with friendship. They had no agenda beyond wanting to enjoy one another’s company. They were always thinking about what was best for each other and the company, anticipating each other’s needs, and celebrating the combination of their differing perspectives to create better ideas. They wanted to create a culture inside the company that mirrored the fundamental trust they believed exists – and that they hold sacred in their own deep connection with one other.
Joe, Nate, and Brian’s story is an important one, as it goes beyond their deep connection with each other – to their team, their hosts, their guests, and the wider communities in which they operate. It is a shining example of connection and trust in a world that incentivizes the opposite.
