Many people know there was a hole discovered in the ozone layer that threatened humanity, but very few people know who is responsible for the resolution of this catastrophic possibility. That’s because it wasn’t one single superhero; it was a collective of individuals who worked together across decades and sectors to mobilize the world under the Montreal Protocol, a landmark international treaty designed to protect the Earth’s ozone layer by phasing out the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances.
